Shuri castle is the largest of Okinawa's castles. When, and by whom, the castle was first built here is still uncertain, but it is thought to have been built in the second half of the 14th century. According to history, it has been destroyed by fire and rebuilt 5 times, including recent reconstruction. It was designated a national treasure in 1933, only to be destroyed in the Battle of Okinawa. It was fully restored again in 1958.
Friday night we went to Nago, for the Shuri Castle Moonlight Fair. It is a re-enactment of the Ryuku kingdom's Full Moon Feast. It's traditional dancing and music with a presentation of the king and queen of the Ryuku kingdom's parade. The show is held based on the old lunar calendar.
